Our Mission

Making a Difference

Benevolent Warrior Ranch is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Asotin, Washington providing equine therapy exclusively for United States Military Veterans and Active-Duty Military Personnel of all branches.

No previous horsemanship experience is necessary to participate in BWR programs.

We help facilitate a connection between the Veteran and the horse that evokes personal growth, self-reflection, patience, and mindfulness. Veterans can apply these skills to improve their ability to cope with stress and trauma.

Have Questions?

We Have Answers.

  • How much does it cost for a veteran to participate in equine therapy?

BWR believes that mental health services should be accessible to all veterans with as few barriers as possible. Veterans are invited to participate in as many equine-assisted therapy sessions as they desire at no cost to them. BWR may also be able to assist with costs of transportation for a veteran getting to the ranch.

  • Why is equine assisted therapy beneficial for US Military veterans?

Veterans acquire a particular set of skills through their military service including leadership, selflessness, determination, and an acute attention to detail under incredible stress. The ability to differentiate between road-side garbage and an I.E.D. are examples of skills and reactions that often don’t depart the veteran after service. Residual hyper-vigilance and stress sometimes prevents us from enjoying civilian life, even when doing something as simple as driving down the road. Horses provide a positive outlet for this energy.

Through equine therapy, we connect on a spiritual level with the horse. BWR focuses on mindfulness and communication between veterans and horses, leading to the development of coping skills specific to service members and their experiences.
